Winter Water Play
With the kids at home on vacation from school during the holidays, there is plenty of time for fun and games. Check out our “Tip Tank” and test their memory while they learn about saving water. We’ve also got some friends in the water conservation business, and they have some great games that’ll also help you learn a little about saving water while you play.
Water-wise Gift Ideas
Shopping for gifts is a tradition during the holiday months, and this December will likely be no exception. This holiday season, we can give back to the earth as well as give to each other. Here are just a few ideas for gifts that are water-wise, and people pleasing.
- Front loading washers may cost a bit more, but they are more water and energy efficient. The increased capacity means fewer loads of laundry. Less water is used, so there is less water to heat. A family of four can save 1,000 gallons a month.
- Water-efficient dishwashers can also save you both water and energy. Save 1,200 gallons a year with a new water-efficient model.
- Low-flow showerheads provide amazing savings. Replace your 4 gallon per minute (gpm) head with a model 2.5 gpm head and save 12 gallons or more for each eight-minute shower. A family of four can save up to 1,400 gallons of water monthly
- High-efficiency toilets are water savers that have an impact – easily saving up to 1,200 gallons a month.
- Landscape renovations can turn a thirsty landscape to a low water-using Xeriscape and can cut your outdoor water use in half. The savings can add up to as much as 50,000 gallons a year for an average-sized yard.
