University Students Talk Water Conservation in Arizona Ads

Six television vignettes airing one Saturday morning in November was part of the Arizona coalition’s fall media plan this year. Wanting to incorporate new, young faces in the conservation message, the Arizona partners asked students from Arizona State University’s School of Urban and Environmental Planning and Global Institute of Sustainability and Mesa Community College’s Environmental Club to talk conservation in the ads. The vignettes were filmed in different areas around an award-winning home and each student was asked to talk about how to save water in that part of the home. Discussing not only the savings received by installing water-efficient appliances, they also provided easy ways people could save even without installing these technologies. The icing on the cake was an interactive water conservation web page on the station’s website. This specially created page featured a house floor plan and allowed visitors to click on a section of the house, receive a tip and watch the vignette.
