Can Conservation Be E-Mailed?
In a society where checking e-mail is as second nature as brushing your teeth, it makes perfect sense to use this form of communication to tell people to turn the water off while brushing.
Today over 147 million people across the country use e-mail. In fact, e-mail has reached an all-time high, with 91% of people who use the Internet subscribing to this form of electronic communication. In January, the Arizona coalition of Water – Use It Wisely partners began capitalizing on the daily activity of checking e-mail to affect the daily activity of using water.
The Monthly Water Conservation Planner is a citizen e-mail highlighting a different water-saving activity each month. Leveraging the recently completed 12-month water planning guide, the e-mail program effectively highlights each month of the planner with a simple tip or two consistent with that month’s theme. The regular e-mails keep water conservation top-of-mind while also directing people to wateruseitwisely.com, where they can access the complete 12-month water planning guide, extensive information on outdoor water-use, and 100-plus water-saving tips and resources. Like checking e-mail, water conservation should be second nature. Implementing a tip-a-month campaign is a great way to keep conservation top-of-mind while also helping people see that saving water is as easy as checking their e-mail.
Mile-for-Mile Messaging for Virginia Partner
Hampton Roads Water Efficiency Team used Water – Use It Wisely “wrapping paper” to cover their mobile distribution center. The trailer travels throughout the region providing a home for staff and Water – Use It Wisely materials during events and festivals. Just like the neighborhood ice cream truck, people see water conservation coming to a town near them. Great job HR WET!
Peoria Mayor Says “We must conserve!”
Mayor Bob Barrett had some fun drawing attention to water conservation last month. Putting the eye-catching Water – Use It Wisely tower in the lobby of City Hall gets the point across that Peoria is committed to reducing their water use. Standing 16 feet high, this 136-gallon pyramid effectively demonstrates the average amount of water each resident uses on a daily basis. The unusual pyramid makes for a powerful eye-opener and educational aid to get people talking about water conservation.
The Water – Use It Wisely Starter Package is a great way to quickly restock your campaign for the spring.
