How long has the campaign been around?
February 1, 2000, Water – Use It Wisely was launched as a cooperative effort on behalf of metropolitan Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale and the Arizona Department of Water Resources. Water – Use It Wisely is the Nation's most comprehensive education and media campaign ever developed for water conservation. It's simple, yet proven effective message has found its way into the public through every angle you can imagine. From PSAs to grocery bags, you name it—it's been created. What this means is you don't have to incur the costs of developing something from scratch. You can customize any of the products within weeks and have it up and running immediately! Is this campaign effective?
Absolutely. In fact, four surveys have been conducted in different areas of the country and in each one, the results are more compelling than the last that this message is working. Check out the results!

Not only is the Water – Use It Wisely message proven effective, it's winning awards as well. In 2001, Valley Forward awarded Water – Use It Wisely the prestigious Crescordia Award for Environmental Excellence. The campaign won at the Utility Communicators International Awards in 2002 and 2003 for "Best Campaign", "Best Web site", and "Best Educational Book" and in 2004 for "Best Campaign" and "Best Newspaper Series". And, the campaign has received seven National Telly Awards for Televised Public Service Announcements.

I have an extremely limited budget, how can I use this campaign?
The best place to start is with the "Starter Package". For only $2500, you'll receive a collection of materials including color brochures, magnets, static clings, tattoos, bookmarks, listings on the conservationist page of wateruseitwisely.com Web site, Water – Use It Wisely web banners for your website, and a link from your site to wateruseitwisely.com. These items are great for events, bill inserts, school programs, and much more. You°ll also receive a marketing plan with suggestions on how to maximize the use of the materials and what the next steps should be. Your involvement with the National coalition of Water ¬ Use It Wisely partners will be announced in an email newsletter that reaches over 1000 conservationists across the country. If you refer someone who purchases the "Starter Package", you°ll receive 250 free magnets!

What does it cost?
Costs vary depending on the amount of material you need as well as how many different entities you provide materials to. If you are a small town and you do not require a large stock, then the "Starter Package" is right for you. If you are joining Water – Use It Wisely as an entire state or region, then you may want all the elements of the campaign. Costs are based on your level of participation. The greatest savings occur when individual companies join together as a coalition to share the expense of the entire campaign. One thing is for sure—it will cost less to implement the proven Water – Use It Wisely campaign than it will to develop a campaign from the ground up.

How can I customize the materials for my area?
All of the Water – Use It Wisely materials can be customized to reflect your company or organization. Your customers should know that you are delivering this message and where you can be reached. There is a library of photographs and television personalities for you to choose from and use in your advertising. Any of the tips can be customized to deliver a message specific to your region. Most of the campaign materials are also available in Spanish.
